Religion News Service journalists among finalists for 2019 RNA awards

COLUMBIA, Mo. — Religion News Service (RNS) is pleased to announce that a number of its journalists were named as finalists today in the 2019 Religion News Association Awards for Religion Reporting Excellence.

“Having so many talented journalists named as finalists in the RNA Awards for Religion Reporting Excellence is a testament to the outstanding work being done at RNS,” said Thomas Gallagher, RNS CEO & Publisher.

Five of RNS’s full-time staffers were named as finalists. Several RNS columnists and regular contributors were recognized as well.

“Our RNS team is among the best in the business,” said Bob Smietana, RNS editor-in-chief. “Great to see them recognized by our peers on the religion beat. Congratulations to all our team members.”

The range of awards announced today showed the excellence of the religion journalism field, said Gallagher.

“We are pleased to see how much excellent work has been done in the field of religion journalism this past year as represented by the diverse group of finalists,” he said.
